At Home In the Guild

Members offer quilt technique classes at home for the bargain price of $10 per class, profits going to support the guild. Class sizes are normally small, so sign up early. If you are interested in teaching a class or have a specific skill you would like to learn, let us know and we’ll try to work something out!

May

•May 15, 9am to 2pm at the home of Angie Madden — Hand-dyeing fabrics based on the color wheel. Angie will be teaching, and if you’ve taken a class from her, you know what a dye-master she truly is. In addition to the normal class fee of $10, there will be $5 fee for dyes. Supply list is posted below. You will need a lot of containers, so start collecting now if you want to take advantage of this wonderful class!

•May 18, 10am to 12 noon at the home of Lynn Donovan — Lynn will teach us to make chenille and we will use our new skill to make a chenille mitt — perfect for washing the car (think Father’s Day gift!), dusting, or window washing. Class will be limited to four due to space considerations.

July

•July – Fabric weaving and raw edge appliqué taught by Linda Siska. Date and time TBA. Class will be limited to four due to space considerations. (This is a time change from the newsletter—with Sharon Schamber coming, June will be busy enough!)

August

•August – Scott Murkin’s strata curves taught by Barbara Doster and Carolyn Milligan. Date and time TBA.

Coming this fall

As you can see, there are some terrific classes in the works. Stay tuned! L Siska

Supply list Color Wheel class

12 fat quarters white pfd (prepared for dyeing) fabric (or 12- 10inch squares or size you want)

12 containers with lids large enough for your fabric—empty Crystal Light containers work well, so do large large-mouth jars. I don’t recommend freezer bags, they leak!!!

3 jars of at least quart size, to mix chemicals

1 one cup measure cup (I have plenty if you don’t)

1 set measuring spoons (I also have plenty of these)

If you would like to dye a multicolor larger piece to match your color wheel colors, bring a 1 to 3 yd piece and we will do one to coordinate with the twelve you will have.

Please bring a box or some container that will hold your twelve jars so you can get them home safely.

If you have gloves, mask etc, you may bring them, but I have these. Please wear old clothes!!

I will fix lunch, bring your drink if you don’t care for unsweetened tea.
