From the PresidentWasn’t our 2010 Quilt Show something? Angie made a wonderful and brave choice moving the show to the Fair Grounds. Give her a hand for making it not only work but being the great show it was. Now, who will pick up the reins and start planning our show for 2012? Angie has volunteered to assist and share her information of putting on a quilt show. Our guild also needs someone to be Chairperson of the Arts Festival. These are the two ways we raise the money needed for the guild to operate. We also use each function to promote and advance the art of quilt making which is the purpose of the guild. We cannot afford to lose our position at the Arts Festival. There are other Heritage Arts organizations that will step up and take our place. For the month of April, our Day Meeting of the Guild must be moved from the fourth Thursday, the 22nd, to the fifth Thursday, the 29th, due the church needing the meeting room for a conference. Please help us pass the word to members. Also, we will be having a Sit and Sew after our March Day Meeting. Remember to bring your lunch and stay for the sewing. You will need your machine and sewing supplies. If unable to bring your machine you can cut, iron or ketch. We will decide while sewing where we want to donate our projects. See you, Carolyn Milligan Night ChapterI hope all of you found your way to our new (wonderful) meeting place and had a chance to hear Scott Murkin. His humorous and down to earth lecture about his journey into quilting was both informative and entertaining. What a treat to hear from our show judge. And girls – you all did much better at Tiny Talk. Now, all we have to do is remember the names of all the new people we’re meeting!! I’m still accepting fat quarter donations – just see me before the meeting starts. This month our program is being presented by Rosemary Martin. It’s entitled “Taking the Mystery out of Scrap Quilts”. Rosemary has a broad background in scrap quilts and I know you won’t want to miss it. I guarantee you’ll pick up at least one tip to use in your next project. Be sure and check out the Library, there are lots of wonderful books. Our numbers are growing, so make sure you meet someone new. Karen Williamson 2nd Vice President Day ChapterWhat a fabulous Quilt Show we had. The new venue was so large and roomy. I loved all the vendors and I just can’t say enough. For our March meeting, we ere going to spend the entire meeting having a “major” “Show and Share.” I would like anyone who is willing to do so, to bring in their prize winning quilt and share it with us along with the judge’s comments on it. In fact, I would love it if anyone who entered a quilt, even if it didn’t win any ribbons, to bring it in and share the judge’s comments with the entire group. I think this can be a real learning experience for all of us. See you all at the next day meeting. Laurie Quilt Show 2010The show is over, I know everyone wants to know how much we made and how many attended. I will have that information for you next month. The opportunity quilt was won by Myra Wagner from Milton. She cried when she found out she won. I would like to remind you that if you were on the show board our wrap up meeting is Wed, March 24th at 9:30am at the Hancock Bank. Please bring your end of show evaluation to turn over to the next show chair. If you have any bills or money to turn in, please get that to Linda Richardson ASAP so she can crunch the numbers for us. We really need a show chair for 2012, please know that you have people who will work and support your efforts to make your job easier, I speak from experience, the people who worked with me made my job much easier, and enjoyable. I have T-shirts, calendar ,and pins left. They will be on sale for $5, $5 and $2 respectively for the next day and night meeting only. If you did not get yours, or want to help with the cost of these, please see me at these meetings. Thanks again to my hard working board, and thank you for the honor of being your show chair, Angie Sunshine CommitteePlease help us reach our members who are in need of a ray of sunshine. If you know of anyone who may be sick, in the hospital or who may have lost a loved one, please let me know. My name is Lois Watson. My address, phone number and email address can be found in the membership directory. You can also contact our president Carolyn Milligan who will forward that information to me. Thank you, Lois M. Watson Sunshine Chairperson NEWSLETTERThe deadline for newsletter submissions and paid advertisements is noon on the first Saturday after the monthly board meeting (which is held the first Thursday of each month). If you’re totally confused by that, you do have company! I have recently taken over publication of the newsletter and I’m still learning the software involved, so please bear with. If you are having difficulty opening the PDF file that comes in your email, I would appreciate knowing, apparently not everyone could open the file in February. Still learning the ropes, Linda Siska, Newsletter person At Home in the GuildFirst of all, kudos to Angie, the 2010 show chairman, and to all who participated in any shape or form in our biennial show. We did a bang up job and should all take our bows. We have so much talent in our guild and it was great to see it on display! Secondly, I am in the process of scheduling classes for April and May — be on the lookout for details at the March meetings and on our website. And if you are interested in learning a particular skill or how-tos for a particular project, or if you are willing to teach a class, please let me know. I’m always open to new ideas! L Siska At Home in the Guild chairperson WorkshopsThe next workshop for this year will be Sharon Schamber’s class on Piec-lique Friday June 25th and Machine quilting on Saturday June26th. I will take names for waiting list at the meetings you may still have a chance for a class. I just got news we can add a 3 hr class the afternoon of the day lecture.
