- In step 2 – instead of cutting a strip and laying it at the corner. Cut (2) 4 inch squares. Then cut them across the diagonal – making 4 triangles. This will give you the 4 points of the star.
- In step 4 – do NOT trim around leaving a quarter inch – just trim excess from around the foundation leaving a 4 X 6 inch piece.

Step 1
Cut 4 fabric foundation pieces – 4in x 6 in
Step 2
Place first strip (2 1/2in) as shown on diagram – Right side up. This is the only strip that is a specific size. OR cut (2) 4” squares and then cut a cross the diagional making 4 triangles.
Step 3
Line up the first colored strip with the right sided edge of the black strip. These two pieces should be placed right sides together. OR place (1) of the triangles in the lower left hand corner with the first strip on top – right sides together.
Step 4
Sew the seam, press and then trim.
Step 5
Lay on the next strip- lining up with the right side edge – right sides together.
Step 6
Repeat step 4.
Step 7
Repeat this process until the foundation piece is covered. Trim around foundation piece.
Step 8
Cut center piece – 2 1/2 in x 2 1/2 in
Step 9
See block layout.
Step 10
Piecing- Stitch first foundation to the center piece only ½ way down the side- press away from the center.
Step 11
Stitch the second, third and fourth foundation pieces as normal.
Step 12
Now go back and finish the first seam. (The fourth foundation piece will be part of this seam.)
