Carol Marszalek will teach this beginner's introduction on how to make an easy Mariner's Compass block. There are many ways to make compass blocks: hand drafted, plastic template, ruler templates, foundation paper piecing, or freezer paper.
The technique we will be learning will be folded paper piecing, which allows you to reuse your pattern multiple times, saving time and money. We will not get into color theory, drafting, or y-seams in this class.

At the end of the class, hopefully you will have a complete block finished. It can become a mini, you can make a couple more to do a table runner, or perhaps the start of a full size quilt.

Supply List
You will need to bring six different fabrics to make the points: 3 light and 3 dark to make 3 contrasting pairs (see photo above).  Fat quarters should be ample. Pattern and written instructions will be provided. Bring a small cutting mat, a rotary cutter, and a 6 or 12 inch ruler to speed up your progress. Obviously, bring your sewing machine, extension cord, and accessories needed for accurate piecing. A small thin ruler to speed up your folds (we will provide lightweight cardboard strips).
There will be several irons and ironing boards to share, as well as several small cutting mats to share. You're welcome to bring a small iron and ironing mat to use at your table.
